Betty & Joe on vacation in Florida
Sent to Joe 0n March 20th:
Hello AARP Oldest Son
We have not been kidnapped. As always, I have been thinking of all
my sons, and this trip, disguised as a visit, was to setup BERGMAIER VILLA. I have bought eight building lots, one for each of you to build a Florida house. This will panic Keith and Michele; cause them to list their house for distress sale, and allow me to buy it at fifty cents on the dollar. They can then rotate, one month with each of the Florida Bergmaiers and the three months of Summer imposing on the Solons.
As for Mom, she has found a gold mine here, and I don't mean the golden Florida sunshine. Here she enjoys Bingo twice a week at the local Parish, Our Lady of The Springs in Silver Springs, with the local VFW's and similar groups offering it on the days when the Parish doesn't have it. Inasmuch as Ocala is a very Christian town, and Bingo is not permitted on Sundays, she is forced to travel fifty miles to the Gulf Coast and it's Casino Boats which sail on Sundays. Although she has kept her mouth shut, she must have had a big hit when she and Michele took the Boat, two weeks ago, because she gave me back the Hundred Dollars I gave her for Michele and herself to gamble. As for Michele, Miss Thrifty as she is, she confessed that she won sixteen dollars, after which she pocketed it and quit, pretending the permitted smoking was too much for her.
We are leaving after Chris serves his first Mass as an Altar Server tonight - he is really thrilled - and after he plays (probably pitches) his next Baseball game on Monday night. He is trying to be Tug McGraw - three and zero followed by three fast strikes, which is driving the batters and opposing coaches crazy. Last Monday, it was fourteen batters in four innings - one flyout; one groundout; one double (did not score); one base on balls (did not score); and ten strike outs.
As for myself, the real estate dealings are "bull". Actually, I keep myself busy as the resident Electrician, Plumber and Carpenter; I bring in the newspaper each morning; I bring in the trash cans (if I do not bring them out) each Wednesday and Friday. Also, I take several constitutionals each day, with a four block walk through the nreighborhood, and to the consternation of Keith and Michele, introduce myself to, and "gab" to, all the neighbors, so much so that I only need one more signature for the ballot to run for U.S. Representative for their Congressional District. In the same vein, I
have become an honorary member of the Parish Men's Breakfast Club, meeting after daily Mass at the Walmart Cafe. That is why Chris has nicknamed me "talkman", or more scholarly, "LQ" for loquacious
We will be home soon, and will probably see most of you for Easter.
Pass this information on.
